She lived in Canada. He lived in Southern California. What seemed like a long distance friendship slowly turned into a whirlwind of events that led Silvia closer to Fernando. The chemistry between them was incredible, and the love they shared unquestionable. For the first time, I met Silvia and Fernando at a Los Angeles' hidden gem--the Venice Canals. It was 6 a.m. and overcast; we questioned if the sun would come up at all. It was the most perfect time to start our session as all the locals sleep in and the tourists are nowhere to be found. It almost felt like a giant serene paradise for these two to wander. Being that this was a maternity session, and Silvia was 8 months into her pregnancy we started talking about the kinds of photos she would like to take. This turned into an on-going joke where they said "Can we just take photos as if we're on a date?" We laughed about it, but I knew at that moment: this is gonna be fun. The Venice Canals is a small neighborhood of intricate houses and decorative patios that you can see from just crossing a bridge over to the next. No matter where you stand, your backdrops are endless. As we walked down towards the Venice Boardwalk, we had a rare opportunity to see all the street art on the store front roll-down doors. The art is what drew Silvia and Fernando to Venice Beach for their photo shoot. Fernando is the kind of guy who knows how to break a silence in the room. And he was the kind of guy to always find the right words to make Silvia laugh. I can only imagine how much more laughter is going to in their lives when their baby girl arrives! ![]() As we ended our session, we walked down the street and a yellow house with much imagination caught Silvia's eye. This house was more than just a house right out of a cartoon. It was a much needed backdrop in both their lives and mine. Thank you so much to Fernando and Silvia for the opportunity to photograph this memorable time in your lives. I can't wait to see where your love takes you and your beautiful family.
