Jen and I met on Honeybook's creative online community of amazing business owners. I posted a collaborative request out to the universe, and then came Jen Anderson from Sha Sha Co.
Sha Sha Co. is a boutique Event Design and Coordination company based out of Los Angeles, California. Just half a day spent this coordinator during our lifestyle portrait session, you'd be surprised what locations you'd be able to access with Jen on your side.

You’ve researched a handful of photographers and you’ve narrowed down your favorites to contact. You fill-out a few contact forms and now you’re basically playing the waiting game to see who responds first. You get an email that sounds a whole lot of excitement to meet you and your fiance, and so you set-up your first wedding photography consultation. Yay!
...Now what? To lay out some expectations, I thought I’d drop a few notes about what to expect from your potential wedding photographer at your first consultation in hopes there is more clarity and understanding on what most of us do and how we approach it... at least in my business. As the temperature drops in Southern California, the little beams of glee come along that is everything holiday season.
And with one of the busiest times of the year for portrait photographers, I'm no exception to all that holiday glee. In the past, I wrote a similar post: Spring Sessions: How to Prepare for Your Session. Although preparing for a session overall is pretty much the same at different times of the year, there are some slight differences in the details that I want to make sure you are prepared for. And with holiday mini-sessions, there is exception. Here are some tips on how to be super awesome at your next holiday mini-session...and if you get to the bottom, I've got a FREE downloadable checklist so you never forget what to take with you to your next family session. Imagine you're about to walk down the aisle.
You've spend countless hours making sure everything goes as planned. You hired your dream photographer, your make-up and hair are on point. You're about the marry to person of your dreams. And then as you start to walk, you're looking into the crowd of people you've hand selected to be part of your big day only to see the backsides of their mobile devices while they take snap shots of you. Your eyes search to make eye contact with your soon to be life partner, but your aunt is standing in the middle of aisle to get a better glimpse of you as your uncle is calling out your name to look over to him so he can take a photo of you on his big fancy camera. And all you could think of is: WHAT. IS. HAPPENING. Summer time is the number one time of the year when people decide to get married. Most people are willing to to stay out later, plan their vacation times, and for the ones with kids, this is the time of year the kids are out of school.
But what about engagements? I went to visit Auntie Google to check, and I guessed correctly. The most popular date for people to get engaged is on Valentine's Day (however, there are 364 other days in the year that people all over the world get engaged). And seeing as there are so many times in the year that people pop the question, that just means that there that many opportunities to plan an engagement session. Planning your engagement session is super important, but also shouldn't be stressful. So to make your experience of going through your session as smooth as possible, I wanted to give you a few tips on what you can bring to your engagement session. You're going to thank me later. Trust. In the photography industry of photographing people, us photographers get invested the people they work with (myself included). We’re in the business of making people happy. And sometimes it comes at a cost.
With so much information about photographers and how-go guides out there (my blog included), I thought I would do something a little bit different this week and talk about the big elephants in the room. As much as I love my elephants, these are not the elephants I want in my room. (That came out weirder written down than in my head. Oh, well.) I’m talking about things photographers don’t want to say to their clients, and just wish they already knew. So with that out of the way, let’s get to this week’s blog post… Hanging up photos in your living room, home office, or even your kitchen to bring life and character into the space.
I've mentioned this before, but there's also something to be said about having photographs printed and tangible in your hands; The feel of the paper, the lustre finish, the way the colors pop! Magical. Since I've had the pleasure of photographing the coolest clients, I thought to put together a how-to guide on creating your own photo gallery to put up in your home or office space. You know that feeling when you’ve thought about an idea over and over again and you finally just decide--why not??
Yeah, that’s how I feel about my first ever print shop! As a photographer, I live and breathe photography. But there’s just something about actually having tangible photos in your hand. So, when I thought to open up and offer prints of my photography I thought how fun would it be to be able to have my work hang up in other amazing people’s homes (even if I’ve never photographed them as clients)? And guess what? Not only do I have prints, but I have the cutest home pieces and daily items with my photography on it! Take a look! Do you remember back when you would walk into a photo studio to take your family portraits or when you and your friends would take pictures together to give to everyone?
The process of choosing where to go and how the pictures would come out was part of deciding whether or not you got your pictures taken there. Similarly, as photographers we use your photos to showcase what we can do for someone like you, a potential client, their friends or family members. The idea is simple--people always want to see what they'll get before they decide. Gone are the days of burning a CD of images or a DVD slideshow for clients. Insert the times of instant gratification when you receive a link directly to your private online digital photo gallery right to your inbox (say that one five times fast)!
When my clients hire me, they all get a personalized photo gallery where they can view, download and share (soon purchase print straight from gallery) their images as soon as they receive their link. With Pixieset, they have revolutionized my delivery by light years! If you're wondering how I deliver my photo sessions and wedding online galleries, you are in for a good one where I walk through how to navigate the gallery and download them. This is gonna be good... |
