October in Los Angeles is not always full of bright orange and red fallen leaves; however, if you look hard enough we have some gorgeous gems in some places.
As usual, before any shoot I scouted the area to look for great backdrops. Aside from backdrops, when scouting for a great location, what I'm really looking for is light. I want to know how the light affects the scene, how deep are the shadows, and how will the light affect the mood of my images (among other factors).
The time was nearly 6 p.m. on a Sunday in Sylmar, California.
I found this little street where I could get a gorgeous mountain backdrop and the golden light was perfect for this shoot.
Her name was Lisette. I had posted a casting call on my social media for a female model for a few ideas I had in mind, and Lisette jumped on-board. After brainstorming for this shoot, it was decided that it would be a sixties meets modern theme. Her vintage look and old soul was perfect for it.
First, we took it up to the mountains right as the sun was setting...
